Saturday 16th June - the fourth day of the Portland Art Festival has Literature, Theatre and a Carnival.
A really varied bill today with a talk by local writer Ruth Webb for the literary minded, two performances of the St. Mark's players variety show and the Rylands Community Carnival.
"A Local Writer and Writing about Writers" By Ruth Webb
A unique opportunity to listen to a published author talking about the art of writing. Ruth Webb has taught literature classes for nearly 30 years. When researching her PhD, she worked on the manuscripts of the writers Virginia Woolf and Jean Rhys. In 2000, her biography of Virginia Woolf was published by the British Library, and she is currently writing a biography of Jean Rhys for Virago. Come along and find out about the process of researching and writing biographies.
Enjoy the celebrations at Ryelands' annual carnival where you will be delighted by the exciting sounds of Ryelands Steel band and mesmerised by the bright and colourful carnival dance troop. It will be a great day for all the family with amazing tricks performed by a street magician, a balloon race, face painting for the kids and lots of other child orientated stalls.
