"A Local Writer and Writing about Writers" By Ruth Webb
A unique opportunity to listen to a published author talking about the art of writing. Ruth Webb has taught literature classes for nearly 30 years. When researching her PhD, she worked on the manuscripts of the writers Virginia Woolf and Jean Rhys. In 2000, her biography of Virginia Woolf was published by the British Library, and she is currently writing a biography of Jean Rhys for Virago. Come along and find out about the process of researching and writing biographies.
All Saints Concert Band bring their unique fun brand of Big Band music to the Stanley halls. They will be playing a thrilling mix of soundtracks, popular hits and classical music in a show that is guaranteed to put a smile on your face - young, old or anywhere in between.
We have a number of South Norwood's best dance groups performing. Aspara Arts bring us a Bollywood inspired show of modern Indian dancing, Isis give us a display of Belly-dancing, Mayura Patel demonstrates Indian Folk-dances and the True Gospel team show us some Street-dance moves. Would you like to find out more about the history of South Norwood? Join other local residents and tour guide, May Johnson, outside the Portmanor Pub on Portland Road at 6pm. May will take you on a 2 hour tour around the historical sites of South Norwood and reveal some long forgotten secrets of its past and its famous residents. Poets Anonymous kick the Festival off with a night of Poetry reading. You are invited to read your own poetry, read one of your favourite poems or just come along and hear the work of the rest of the group. Enjoy the celebrations at Ryelands' annual carnival where you will be delighted by the exciting sounds of Ryelands Steel band and mesmerised by the bright and colourful carnival dance troop. It will be a great day for all the family with amazing tricks performed by a street magician, a balloon race, face painting for the kids and lots of other child orientated stalls.
