Following our successful launch meeting in April, the inaugural Annual General Meeting was held on Tuesday 7th
June. Seventy-five people were there, reflecting local support for our aims to
regenerate Portland Road.
PPR chair, Councillor Paul Scott introduced the meeting with an explanation of progress so far. This includes the establishment of the group, the initial survey to local people, and the start of production
of a film about PPR.
The constitution was accepted unanimously by the AGM, and the following nominees were accepted in their role:
Chair: Cllr Paul Scott
Vice Chair 1: John Hickman
Vice Chair 2: Tom Hurcombe
Secretary: Joanne Elvy
Treasurer: William Quagrine
Communications Officer: Liz Ismail
Membership Secretary: Heather Hardie
Fundraising Officer: Sonia Harle
The meeting broke into five working groups for each of the core aims (as above).
Priorities discussed included:
· The establishment of a planning group to
review and comment on planning applications (e.g. conversions of retail outlets to residential use)
· Supporting and regenerating local businesses
and shops
· Devising a road safety plan
Kym Wunderstiz, a consultant who has been appointed by Croydon Council to work with us, gave a presentation on how
we can develop a regeneration plan for Portland Road with his help. The regeneration
of Portland Road is a pilot scheme, which the council could implement in other areas if it is successful. Kym’s plans include assessing the high vacancy rates along the road and finding ways of improving
the vibrancy of the area.
Thank you to everyone who came along to the AGM for your participation, support and ideas. If you would like a copy of the minutes of the meeting please use the response form on the reverse of this

Introducing our logo
We are proud to use this newsletter to introduce our logo, created especially
for People for Portland Road by local designer Ken Baker and shown in the top right of this newsletter. Here’s how Ken came up with his eye catching design:
‘The logo employs a people friendly typeface, the letters linked and
in italics to suggest moving forward together, with the R’s foot kick-starting the road plan – a plan for action!’
The plan of Portland Road in the logo moves from the foot of the R up to the
North end of the road, with the break in the line at the top representing the railway bridge.
Look out for the logo on posters and in publications like this newsletter.
