Posh Up Portland Road

Following the success of last year's 'Posh Up Portland Road', PPR will again be taking part in the London-wide 100 day clean up. This time we will be meeting on Saturday May 10th at 10 a.m. outside the Leisure Centre. Scroll down to see what we did at last year's posh-up.

We decided to tackle the litter and fly tipping behind the railings along Clifford Road but also spruced up Portland Rd and helped a few local businesses to improve their fronts. We advertised in the local press for other volunteers to join us on 12 May and were supplied with litter pickers, refuse sacks and gloves by Croydon Council.

There was an excellent turn out from people who care about their local environment and wanted to do their bit to give the area a general lift. We will be repeating this exercise and hope more will join us in making South Norwood a cleaner environment for everyone.

PPR are also promoting and participating in Croydon Council’s Street Champion initiative. Street Champions are people who care about their local environment enough to take the time to do something when they see a problem. The Council provides Street Champions with a phone card in order to make free calls to report problems.

You may just take a few minutes to contact the Council to report some graffiti or a broken street light. Or you may have a whole weekend to spare to help to clean out a pond. Perhaps you could spend 15 minutes a week keeping a street tree watered during the dry season.
There are details below on how you can become a Street Champion including a link to the application form on Croydon Council's web site.
