Dark, unappealing and dirty, the underpass at the northern end of Portland Road has for a long time been a forbidding barrier dividing South Norwood into two halves. And for a long time PPR’s vision has been to see this negative urban space transformed into an attractive gateway, linking Portland Road to the rest of the centre of South Norwood.
Now our lobbying is beginning to pay off: earlier this year Croydon Council invited submissions for a new £50,000 art installation for the underpass, with a closing date of 4 May 2018. Watch this space!
